so last weekend i took a day trip to paris. that's right, day trip. sometimes, not even i can believe my life. what makes this possible is that i live about 1.5 hours away from paris (by train) and costs me about 20 euro. though i've been to paris before (and what a wonderful trip that was!) and i've seen the eiffel tower once or twice, it was still as amazing. only this time, it was amazing for a slightly different reason: i live here now :) anne (a fellow assistant in laon)
and i spent a whirlwind day walking around and sightseeing. we walked down the champs elysées, saw the arc de triophe, walked around père lachaise cemetary, the latin quarter where we ate delicious delicious crêpes (i had two in the span of 30 minutes...yea...) and of course la tour eiffel! next time i go to paris, there will be less sightseeing and more lounging on the streets drinking coffee and people watching. i can't wait. btw, the picture of me on the far left took no less than three tries. i looked like a fool and loved every minute of it.here are some of the highlights of the trip
this is oscar wilde's grave at père lachaise cemetary. he is the martyr to homosexuality and is mourned by "outcast men" and wearers of
heavy lipstick (according to Ricky Steves). as you can see, passer-by's cover the grave with lipstick kisses. i know you're wondering, and no i did not partake in tradition since i thought it was kinda gross. from the looks of it...that has not been cleaned in a while. non, merci.

above is edith piaf's grave which was probably the one i wanted to see the most of all the famous ones in père lachaise. i have sang a number of her songs and she has been a big influence in my music. on the right is chopin's grave. as you can see, both are usually adorned with flowers.
for those of you wondering, jim morrison is burried here, and while it is the most visited site at père lachaise, i found it kinda disappointing.

what kind of crepes did you have? i keep going to this little creperie in soho desperately trying to pretend like they're as good as the ones i had every day in france, but it's no use - so now my alternative strategy is to live vicariously through your own culinary life.
next time you have a chance in paris i highly recommend spending a sunny day in "Parc de la Villette" and (part of the park) "Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie". Link / Another Link / Another Link
on a sidenote, i find the idea of someone's grave being "kinda disappointing" rather morbidly hilarious.
dan, i can't believe i've never even heard of cité des sciences et de l'industrie before! next time i'm in paris, i'm definitely going to go.
also, now that you mention it...i can't believe i wrote that a grave was disappointing...how french i've become.
ps- as far as crêpes go, i had a nutella&banana one and i also had a salty one with egg and cheese :) yum.
