since today was my last day of teaching, i thought i'd do something fun with the kiddies. we played simon says (or as they call it jacques a dit a dit!) with commands like sit down, be quite, listen and touch your head, shoulders, etc. i told them that the last three standing would get coins from america. to which they always reply, real ones? no, i'm giving you fake stuff but just calling it american. ha. i explained that in the US there are 1¢, 5¢, 10¢ and 25¢ coins and shattered their little worlds when i revealed the shocking secret that the 2¢, 20¢ and 50¢ coins didn't exist in america. just think what i would've done to them had i mentioned that there is no $1 coin or $2 coin...crying for sure.
with this enticement, they got real good at following directions. wow. eventually the last three standing got quarters and i gave everyone else a penny or dime. so everyone was happy :) too bad i couldn't get them to concentrate at all after that...when will i learn? the CE1's (2nd graders, 7 yrs old) are like little wiggle machines. i can't get them to stop moving around!
