one of those moments...

what with christmas approaching, i decided to teach them important vocab and teach a fun song. the vocab was: merry christmas, christmas tree, raindeer, snowman and (of course) santa claus. they had a coloring activity along with this and tomorrow we're gonna make christmas cards with the items that they colored. nice and easy.

the song i ended up choosing was jingle bells. i tried to find a song with easy lyrics but the truth is that any carol has too many words and would be too difficult for them to learn. so they learned the chorus of jingle bells. i wasn't sure how i would handle the rest of the song but then it came to me. it was so serendipitous and worked out great! my favorite teaching moment to date. here's what happened...i sang the first verse and they had to add to it with clapping and stomping then join in on the chorus.

Dashing through the snow (clap clap clap)
In a one horse open sleigh (stomp stomp stomp)
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way (ha ha ha!)
Bells on bob tails ring (clap clap clap)
Making spirits bright (stomp stomp stomp)
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight (hey!)

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh (hey!)
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh!

they got so into it! it was so much fun, i could barely stop myself from laughing. tomorrow, i'm bringing in my guitar and we're gonna do an even better job of it.
